India update for omicron

The Omicron total case tally in India has reached 350. It has increased the fear of the third wave of the COVID-19.

  1. Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have announced night curfews. Night curfew in Uttar Pradesh will start from 25th December. UP has cut down the number of people allowed in weddings to 200.
  2. Allahabad High Court urged the Prime Minister to stop rallies and polls in the country. Amidst the rising cases, schools across the country are affected amidst the omicron spreading.
  3. Maharashtra is leading the omicron tally.
  4. The number of Covid-19 cases are rising in New Delhi too.

Prime Minister’s message

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a meeting on Thursday. He said that the fight with coronavirus hasn’t come to an end.  The Prime Minister said that India needs to remain alert in the wake of COVID-19.

In the meeting, Prime Minister also ordered the officials to be ready with oxygen-supply equipment and health systems. He also stated that the government may allow booster doses of vaccines to be given to the people who are fully vaccinated already.

COVID-19 World Update

  1. Russia recorded 1,000 cases of the omicron variant. It is also mentioned that only 32% of Russians are fully vaccinated.
  2. The omicron variant has led to deaths in the USA. Currently, the US is experiencing the fourth wave of coronavirus. Around 675,000 deaths have been recorded.
  3. The US has also canceled the in-person interviews for obtaining US visas.
  4. China has ordered the lockdown of as many as 13 million people in a city Xian of 13 million people with a surge in the cases. Beijing is hosting Winter Olympics in Jan 2022.

World Health Organisation (WHO)

According to the World Health Organisation, the covid booster shot is not necessary. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO said that more than the booster shots, it is important that countries support through healthcare professionals, covid warriors to the countries that need it.
