India Update

With the increase in cases, here is what is being observed in India

  • All international passengers are required to submit documents declaring their past 14-day travel history. In addition, they need to submit their  COVID-19 test report. Furthermore, travellers are also required to quarantine for seven days upon arrival at home.
  • As cases rise in several states, and with the holiday season ahead, people have been advised to maintain social distance, wear masks and maintain good hygiene. 
  • The majority of the schools in India remain closed. The classes continue using online learning methods. The examinations of different boards are being conducted as per the board’s guidelines.
  • Stock markets continue to face unexpected ups and downs due to the risks associated with Omicron spreads. There is fear that Omicrom spread can slow down business growth and employment.
  • Several Bollywood celebrities like Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora have been tested positive after attending parties.
  • International travel restrictions are in place with high-risk countries. Exceptions exist with countries that have Transport Bubbles or Air Travel Arrangements with India.

“Transport Bubbles” are arrangements between two countries aimed at restarting commercial flights when regular international flights are suspended as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Airlines in and out between both countries follow the same guidelines.

Guidelines from World Health Organisation (WHO)
WHO has advised all the countries to take Omicron spread seriously. The fully vaccinated people are also catching the virus. So WHO is exploring booster (additional) doses too.

Worldwide update

  • Several countries are imposing stricter travel restrictions as cases increase. Many countries have suspended flights to and from South African countries. In addition, travellers from high-risk countries will be kept under isolation and follow quarantine rules. 
  • Asian countries like South Korea will be using facial recognition to track COVID-19 patients and banning all non-essential travel.
  • China will not be making any major changes as it already has strict rules in place.
  • United States(US) – With the holiday season ahead, the US has put stricter controls. American citizens are advised to travel only if necessary. President Biden has insisted citizens get vaccinated and in order to avoid spreading on Omicron.
