Padma Awardees 2023!

Padma Award is one of the most important honours granted to Indian nationals. These medals are awarded by the President of India. Indian nationals who have rendered exceptional and outstanding service are eligible to receive the award.

There are three variations of the Padma Awards, each with its own set of honours: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri.

The winners of the 2023 Padma Vibhushan and Padma Shri awards were announced by the government.

Dilip Mahalanabis came up with the idea of oral rehydration salts (ORS). He will posthumously receive the Padma Vibhushan award in the field of Medicine for Pediatrics.

There are nine Padma Bhushan awards and 91 Padma Shri awards. Women will get 19 awards. Also, seven of the honours are given to people after they have passed away.

Selection Process

  • Anyone who is a resident of India has the ability to suggest a name for consideration.
  • All nominations are to be submitted digitally, through an online form.
  • In addition, an essay describing the work that could be done by the possible awardee should be submitted for consideration of the nomination.
  • Every year, between May 1 and September 15 of that same year, the government makes the Padma awards nominations online available to the public.

  • Dr Dilip Mahalanabis reportedly worked at a refugee camp where he popularised the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS).
  • Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav was the founder of the Samajwadi Party.
  • He held the position of Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh three times during his lifetime.
  • One of the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan is the tabla virtuoso, Zakir Hussain.
  • The award of Padma Bhushan was bestowed upon both the industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla and the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murty.
  • Mr Krishna and the Kannada novelist S.L.Bhyrappa have been selected for this year’s honours.
  • The works of Mr Bhyrappa, one of the most well-known novelists in Kannada.
  • His works have been translated into almost all of the languages spoken in India.
  • The award for the Padma Shri was given to Ramkuiwangbe Newme.
  • He is a Naga social worker from Assam.
  • Composer M.M. Keeravani was awarded the Golden Globe for his work.
  • He has also been given the Padma Shri for his achievements.
  • Ratan Chandra Kar (66) was presented with a Padma Shri for his work with the tribes in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
