Peace Hyde: Face behind Netflix’s Young, Famous and African

Recommended for Secondary Grades

Peace Hyde, the creator of Netflix’s first African reality series has become a known face with the success of the show.

Young, Famous and African

The show is based in Sandton, Johannesburg. The show features 10 wealthy African celebrities from South Africa and Nigeria, mostly. It is a 7 part series and it features private jets, shiny luxury cars and elaborate costumes.

The woman behind this show didn’t know about the wealthy lifestyle ever. She is Peace Hyde.

Peace Hyde’s journey

The lady started her career as a science teacher in a school in London. She used to work for a British children’s charity. She was a very strict teacher back then. Her students liked her. In Hyde’s words, her students told her that she should do something more other than teaching science.

She decided to move to Ghana, her home town and decided to pursue her career in acting. She soon realised that she can’t act. Instead, she found her interest in writing and producing content. Isn’t it cool?

Peace Hyde invested her time and energy in writing and producing content as a journalist for Forbes Africa. She also took an interview with an African businessperson and then she got the idea to create the show.

Making of the reality show

She tried to reach many networks with the concept of the show. The people liked the concept but they wanted to direct the show in a manner that Peace Hyde didn’t like. In the end, she found Netflix that was willing to keep the show as per the idea in Hyde’s mind.

The lady also earned criticism that the artists represented the African countries. She rejected the criticism by saying that Africans are one person and don’t stick to different nationalities.

The journey has not been easy for Peace Hyde, but if you dream something big, you have to pass through the obstacles and achieve your goals.
