Pigs can solve problems more independently than dogs

Pigs can solve problems more independently than dogsExperts from Hungary found that pigs could rival dogs as "man's best friend".

They conducted a study comparing the behaviours of the two animals. In the experiment, they found that pigs are more likely to solve a problem involving recovering food from a solvable and impossible puzzle.

They conducted an experiment called the "unsolvable task paradigm".

In this, the animal first faces a problem that he can solve - like the easy-to-open box with food inside. However, as it goes on, the problem becomes unsolvable because the box is tightly closed.

Researchers found that while both dogs and pigs displayed similar behaviour when the box did not have food, they behaved differently when it did have food.

They found that pigs were faster than dogs in solving the puzzle and getting the food.

Also, when the problem became more difficult, the dogs turned to humans for help while pigs did not. This shows the pigs' independence.

While pigs may not be replacing dogs any time soon, they do make great pets. Like dogs, they are intelligent and social animals that enjoy living in groups.

Additionally, some pigs have been bred to be smaller in size, making it easier to keep them at home. They can live as pets for as long as 20 years and get along well with cats too.
