Qantas Airways sells out tickets for “flight to nowhere”

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Do you want to go on a Qantas Airways “flight to nowhere”?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most flights around the world have been stopped. However, people still dream about travelling and having holidays in new places.

That’s where a “flight to nowhere” comes in. These are sightseeing flights which do not take you to another place. Instead, they just fly around and passengers can enjoy the scenery from the plane.

This type of sightseeing flight was recently offered by Qantas Airways in Australia. The tickets sold out in 10 minutes! The company says it is most likely the fastest-selling flight in Qantas’ history. It shows how much people miss travelling!

What will happen on this flight?

This flight will be for seven hours. It will take off from Sydney Domestic Airport in Australia on 10 October.

The plane will fly around the famous places in Australia like Queensland, Gold Coast, New South Wales, Sydney Harbour and the Great Barrier Reef.

What is the Great Barrier Reef?

The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef system.

The plane for the flight is a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. It has bigger than usual windows which are good for sightseeing. Travellers will also get onboard entertainment and be treated to a surprise celebrity host.

This kind of “flight to nowhere” has also been offered in Taiwan and Japan. Other airlines are also considering offering such flights. All these flights are flying with strict COVID-19 precautions.
