Use the internet during flights

Telecom company Reliance Jio has partnered with 22 international airlines to provide internet during flights in India’s airspace. Some of the 22 airlines include Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, and more.

As per government rules, inflight internet services in India’s airspace can be provided only by an Indian telecom service provider.

This new service by Jio can come in handy for users travelling internationally for long flight durations.

As part of the deal, Jio announced three in-flight connectivity packs priced at 499, 699 and 999.

What are the details of these plans?

All three plans provide 100 minutes of outgoing calls and 100 SMS. All three plans have one-day validity. However, the internet data varies from plan to plan, starting at 250MB for the 499 plan  (the cheapest).

Data and SMS services are available on all airlines. But voice calls are available only on some airlines.

Incoming calls are not allowed on any of the packs. These plans are available for both prepaid and postpaid customers.

Currently, Vistara is the only Indian airline that is offering internet during flights. It is free for all passengers. The company has recently launched this in partnership with Tata Group’s Nelco.
