Royal Society photography competition awards 2019’s best science photos

Royal Society photography competition awards 2019’s best science photosMany different best wildlife photos of the year have been presented up to now. They include the British Ecological Society awards as well as the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.

The Royal Society Publishing photography competition, however, does it a little differently. It honours the best photographs of the year in science.

The competition is in recognition of the role that images have in making ordinary people take more interest in science.
 	This year, the first place in the competition went to an image showing silicone oil droplets bouncing continuously above a petri dish of vibrating oil (see above). This image demonstrates a theory called pilot wave theory.
 	The competition also awards scientific contributions to ecology and environmental science, earth science and climatology, behaviour and astronomy.
