Now, scientists have discovered the 'ghost population' of ancient humans.

The study is published in the journal 'Science Advances'.

An odd population of people lived in West Africa, about half a million years ago, which researchers have named as 'ghost population'.
 	Scientists believe that this population had babies with early humans living in West Africa.
 	Researchers suggest DNA from this group makes up between 2% and 19% of modern West Africans' genetic ancestry.
 	Currently, this ethnic population is living in three countries: Nigeria, Sierra Leone and the Gambia.
 	Researchers compared 405 genomes of West Africans with Neanderthal and Denisovan genomes.
 	The findings revealed that they may have multiple populations.

Scientists concluded that modern humans originated in Africa and spread to the rest of the world between 60,000 and 80,000 years ago.
