Scotland beat Bangladesh as T20 World Cup 2021 begins

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 started on 17 October 2021. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is organising it in the United Arab Emirates and Oman and it will go on till 14 November 2021. The West Indies are the defending champions.

India is technically the host of the T20 World Cup 2021. But due to the pandemic, they changed the venue of the tournament.

The tournament has two rounds. The first round will be among countries in Group A and B. Group A consists of Ireland, Netherlands, Sri Lanka and Namibia. Meanwhile, Group B will have Oman, Papua New Guinea, Scotland and Bangladesh.

The matches on the first day

The first match of the T20 World Cup 2021 was on 17 October, between Papua New Guinea and Oman. Oman won the match by 10 wickets.

The second match (held on the 17th itself) was between Scotland and Bangladesh. Scotland managed a surprise win, winning by 6 runs.

The matches will continue among the countries in the two groups till 22 October. After that, the top two teams in each group will proceed to the next stage.

The second round of the T20 World Cup 2021

This is the Super12 stage which begins on 23 October. The first match is between Australia and South Africa at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Here as well, there will also be two groups. India is in group 2, along with Afghanistan, New Zealand and two qualifiers from Round 1. India’s first match will be against Pakistan in Dubai, UAE on 24 October.

The T20 Cricket World Cup 2021 final will be held in Dubai at 6 pm local time on 14 November.
