Shreyas Iyer joins a special list of Indian cricketers

India is currently playing the first of its 2-Test series against New Zealand. The first Test of the series is being held from 25 to 29 November 2021. The match is being held at Green Park International Stadium in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

In the Test, India won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first innings, India scored 345 runs from 111.1 overs. This Test was Shreyas Iyer’s first Test match for India. And he hit his first-ever century on Day 2 of the India vs New Zealand Test on Friday with 105 runs.

The achievement

With this, Shreyas Iyer became the 16th Indian to score a century on his Test debut (first-ever Test match). The first Indian to score a century on debut was Lala Amarnath in 1933. And the previous person before Iyer to achieve the same was Prithvi Shaw in 2018. Others on this list include Surinder Amarnath, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, and Rohit Sharma.

Many people praised Shreyas Iyer’s performance in his first Test. He is currently the captain of the Delhi Capitals team in the Indian Premier League.
