David Attenborough sets new record on Instagram

Have you ever heard of Sir David Attenborough? He is an English broadcaster and natural historian. He is famous for writing and narrating many BBC documentaries on nature and animals. They include Life, Blue Planet, Our Planet, Planet Earth, and many more.

Last Thursday, at the age of 94, Sir Attenborough joined Instagram. He became the fastest person to get more than 1 million followers. He set the record in just 4 hours 44 minutes, beating out actress Jennifer Aniston’s debut in October last year.

The record-breaking first post

In his first post on Instagram, Sir Attenborough put up a short video. In the video, he said that he is joining Instagram to communicate more about the problems the world is facing. He spoke about coral reefs dying, climate change and glacier melt.

This one-minute 12-second video message attracted nearly 20,000 comments within six hours. He will continue to post more video messages in the coming weeks.

Sir Attenborough has joined Instagram ahead of the release of a new documentary called A Life On Our Planet, on Netflix on 4 October.

Earlier this month, he also warned about the great danger that Earth is facing today as many animals are going extinct.

Here is a short video of him interacting with a sloth. Video credit: BBC earth/Youtube
