Skin and Hair Care on Holi

Today, 20th March 2019, is Holika Dahan and tomorrow 21st March 2019 is the festival of colours, Holi.

To celebrate Holi with a lot of fun, most of you will keep colours, water balloons and water guns ready! Do remember that it is best to use organic colours for Holi. These colours do not harm your skin or the environment. Since non-organic (normal) colours may be put on you, you need to know how to protect your skin and hair from them. Here are a few tips:

Put a transparent nail paint covering the nails and nail folds to act as a barrier to entry of colour in your nails and skin.
 	Put oil in the scalp, before you join your friends on Holi Morning.
 	Put petroleum jelly to protect the skin.
 	Wear glasses to protect the eyes.
 	Use sunscreen every hour while playing Holi as some colours get activated with sunlight and cause a photoallergic rash.

To take off colour:

Use a soap free cleanser. Avoid using harsh soaps, scrubs, detergents or bars to remove colour. That can lead to irritant allergy and dehydration of skin leading to rash.
 	Apply a gentle moisturiser after cleaning, as your skin would be very dry.
 	Use sunscreen after the moisturiser, as skin is more susceptible to sun damage after Holi colour use.
 	For Eyes: use eye drops like ‘Refresh Tears’ to gently rinse off the colour that may have entered the eyes.
 	For Hair: Ask your elders to give you  shampoos that are sulfate-free and paraben-free for hair wash. These avoid excessive dryness in the hair that is already damaged by Holi colours.
