Earlier, we have read about the Starlink satellites being launched by SpaceX.
What is Starlink?
Starlink is a collection of small internet satellites that aims to provide high-quality internet service across the world.
It has been announced that Starlink internet services are now available for pre-orders in India. It will be operational for Indian users in 2022 through satellites that SpaceX will launch by then.
Interested users in India can pay a deposit (advance amount) of US$99 (which is a little more than ₹7000). The amount is refundable.
Starlink says that the orders will be fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. It will also depend on government approvals.
Currently, the Starlink internet services are being tested, You can go and check the availability of the services in your area through Starlink’s website. You have to type in your city and postal code to find that out.
Starlink’s satellites
Starlink satellites orbit the earth’s surface at an altitude of 550km. This is quite close compared to large navigation and communication satellites which operate from a medium earth orbit (2,000 km to 35,000 km). Due to the closeness, Starlink and other similar satellites can provide better internet services.
