Study uncovers world’s oldest artwork in Indonesian cave

Study uncovers world’s oldest artwork in Indonesian caveResearchers have uncovered an artwork in a limestone cave in Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. They believe it to be the world's oldest artwork.

They estimate that it dates back 44,000 years!
 	It is 4.5-metre artwork depicting a prehistoric hunting scene. In it, you can see wild animals being chased by half-human hunters wielding what appear to be spears and ropes.
 	The cave paintings were discovered two years ago. A research team from Australia's Griffith University used dating technology to estimate the age of the painting. Watch a short video of this discovery below.

The discovery comes after the previous discovery of another painting of an animal in a cave in Borneo island in Indonesia. That one is believed to be at least 40,000 years old.

Earlier, researchers believed that cave paintings originated in Europe. However, all these new discoveries in Indonesia are challenging the theory. Sulawesi alone has about 242 sites with such paintings and new ones are being discovered annually.
