Taihu tunnel: The longest underwater tunnel in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC)

The sun’s scorching as bright as a gazillion watt bulb (is there even such a thing!), a perfect day to sunbathe, get ample doses of Vitamin-D, sit on a Yoga mat with a cup of coffee and share a story from the land of the dragons and the emperors with our little rockstar readers.

The land of engineering

China isn’t called the land of engineering for nothing, not to mention deeply rooted it’s in culture and diverse languages. Not to mention the fact it sends women astronauts to space, we love women empowerment. On December 31, 2021, it opened its longest underwater tunnel to the general public. The tunnel is part of a nearly 43 km expressway. The length of the underwater highway tunnel is about 11 km.

Connectivity across Yangzte

The tunnel has 6 lanes and colourful LED lights to help drivers deal with driving tiredness. How cool is that? The tunnel promises to offer connectivity between various towns and areas spread across the Yangzte river in China. Yangzte is the longest river in China.

At Curious Times we always get super excited about setting our eyes on such engineering marvels.
