The majestic Super Blood Moon of May
Recommended for Foundational Grades
Last night, people around the world experienced the amazing Super Blood Moon.
This was a total lunar eclipse. A lunar eclipse happens when Earth comes in between the Sun and the Moon. During this time, Earth casts a shadow on the Moon.
This type of lunar eclipse is also called the Blood Moon. This is because the Moon turns reddish-orange colour during the eclipse.
It was also a ‘Super’ Blood Moon because it was a supermoon.
What is a supermoon?
A supermoon happens when a full Moon comes closest to Earth.
People all over the world took many photos and shared on Twitter and Instagram. Did you also see the Super Blood Moon last night?

Here’s a look at this evening’s Super Flower Blood Moon in Williamsport, PA 🌕 May’s full moon is known as a “flower moon” and because a lunar eclipse brings a reddish hue, it’s also called a “blood moon”. This is the only lunar eclipse of 2021. @WNEP #LunarEclipse2021 pic.twitter.com/gicYVxngCY
