Tokyo Olympics: Google Doodle celebrates with animated gamesThe Tokyo Olympics is about to start in Japan today. It will be held from 23 July to 8 August. So, the opening ceremony will begin today at 4:30 pm (Indian time). You can watch it on Sony Sports Network.

The Olympics are held every four years. They were supposed to have been held last year in Tokyo but were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even this year, there will be no spectators. This year, the Olympics will have new sports such as karate, surfing and boarding.

About 30 athletes will represent India at the opening ceremony. Overall, 127 Indian athletes will participate in 18 sports at the Olympics.
Google Doodle
To celebrate the event, Google Doodle has launched the animated Doodle Champion Island Games. If you go to Google's page, you can play the games for free.

It has seven exciting mini-games where users can play as Lucky, the Ninja Cat. The games include table tennis, skateboarding, archery, rugby, swimming, climbing and marathon. The stories in the games involve folktales and characters from Japanese legends.

Country flags as anime characters
A group of Japanese artists have also drawn country flags at the Olympics as anime (cartoon) warrior characters. They have also given each character a personality, strengths and weaknesses, just like in a video game. The artists have done this for free and it has become very popular on the internet.
