Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Hey there! Guess what? Something super amazing happened at the Tokyo Paralympics!

So, on August 30th, there was this Indian shooter named Avani Lekhara who did something extraordinary. She won a gold medal in the women’s 10m Air Rifle Standing event. Woohoo! But wait, it gets even cooler! She scored a whopping 249.6 points, which is not only a personal best but also a Paralympics record. Can you believe it?

Now, let’s talk about the other medal winners. There was this shooter from China called Cuiping Zhang who won the silver medal. And guess who got the bronze? It was Iryna Shchetnik from Ukraine. They must be really proud of themselves too!

Golden Triumph: Avani Lekhara’s Historic Victory at Tokyo Paralympics!

  • Now, here’s the really exciting part. Avani Lekhara made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at the Paralympics. Isn’t that incredible? She broke barriers and showed the world what she’s capable of. We’re all so proud of her!
  • And that’s not all, my friend. Avani also made history by giving India its very first gold medal in shooting at the Paralympics. It’s like she aimed her rifle, shot straight, and hit the bullseye of victory! She joined a special group of Indian athletes who have won gold at the Paralympics.
  • Let me introduce you to her golden gang. There’s Murlikant Petkar, a swimmer who won gold back in 1972. Then we have Devendra Jhajhariya, a mighty javelin thrower who won gold in 2004 and 2016. And let’s not forget about Thangavelu Mariyappan, a super high jumper who also won gold in 2016. Avani is now part of this elite squad!
  • Oh, but wait, there’s more! India has been shining bright in other events too. We’ve won a total of 7 medals so far at the Tokyo Paralympics. Alongside Avani, we have Bhavaniben, who won a silver medal in discus throw. Great job, Bhavaniben!
  • Let’s not forget our other medal winners. Nishad Kumar won a silver medal in high jump. Yogesh Kathuniya threw his discus like a champion and won silver too. Devendra Jhajhariya showed his javelin skills and got another silver medal. And Vinod Kumar, with his strong arms, won a bronze medal in discus throw. Sundar Singh Gurjar, with his powerful throw, also won a bronze medal in javelin throw. They’re all superstars!
  • Now, let’s talk about the world medal tally. China is leading the pack with a whopping 109 medals. They’re really dominating the games! The United Kingdom is in second place, and the United States is in third place. As for our beloved India, we’re currently in the 34th position. But hey, it’s not about the numbers, it’s about the spirit and the joy of participating!
  • So there you have it, my little buddy. Avani Lekhara, with her incredible shooting skills, made history and brought home a gold medal for India. She’s a true inspiration to all of us. Let’s cheer for Avani and all the amazing athletes who are making us proud at the Paralympics. Go Team India!
