India crossed the 1-lakh mark in daily COVID-19 cases

On Sunday, PM Modi held a high-level meet to review the situation. Central teams have been rushed to three states with a high number of cases – Maharashtra, Punjab and Chhattisgarh.

Maharashtra is imposing a night curfew in the state. There will also be a “strict lockdown” over the weekends from Friday 8 pm to Monday 7 am.

Rajasthan is also imposing night curfews. School for classes 1 to 9 has also been suspended from 5 to 19 April.

More than 8 crore vaccines have been given till now.

Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry and set to go to the polls tomorrow in the legislative assembly elections. Assam will also have its final phase of voting while West Bengal will see its third phase.

Russian Foreign Minister’s visit to India

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has begun his two-day visit to India, starting today. He will hold talks with the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. They will also review preparations for the pending India-Russia annual summit later this year.

Indonesia and Timor-Leste face landslides and floods

Heavy rains have led to the overflowing of dams, flooding thousands of homes. Around 100 people have died due to flash floods. Authorities are currently working on rescuing people and moving them to safety.

NASA’s Ingenuity helicopter dropped down on Mars’ surface

The mini-helicopter has been dropped on the surface of Mars in preparation for its first flight. It had been fixed to the belly of the Perseverance rover. Ingenuity is expected to make its first flight attempt no earlier than 11 April.
