Truckloads of apples deteriorate on the Kashmir highway!On the main highway in Kashmir, work on the road has stopped thousands of trucks carrying apples. It is thought that the apples are worth millions of dollars.
Apple growers are concerned because their fruits of labour are beginning to go bad because of the road work.
Even though the divisional commissioner for Kashmir said that the heavy rain led to a bumper crop of apples. But now, falling rocks on the highway are making it hard for apple farmers to move their cars.

On the highway between Srinagar and Jammu, repairs are causing a lot of delays.
The head of the Kashmir Valley Fruit Growers and Dealers Union says that about 8,000 trucks are stuck on the highway.
They contain apples that are worth almost 100 crore rupees.
Since a month ago, the trucks have been stopped on the highway.
Even though apples go bad quickly, they are still Kashmir's main source of income for apple growers.
The economy of the Himalayan region is based on growing fruit.
Also, more than three million people work in the fruit business.
Farmers in the Kashmir valley have shut down the ten most important wholesale fruit markets.
