Trunks Turn into Colorful Stars of Indian Homes!
Recommended for Preparatory Grades
Hey there, inquisitive readers! Guess what? There’s a super cool project called “Trunk Call: From Grey to Gond” by A Hundred Hands. It’s turning those old, boring trunks into fancy pieces of art! You know, those trunks that hide under beds or gather dust in the attic? Yeah, those ones!
Well, they are getting a whole new life and becoming the stars of the show in people’s homes!
The awesome people at “A Hundred Hands” came up with this idea. They wanted to help traditional artists find new ways to show off their skills and make some money. You see, these trunks were originally used by the Army. But now they’re being transformed into something magical.
Just a few months ago, they went to the Central Army Command in Lucknow and decorated a whole wall with something called Gond art. And guess what? People got so excited about it that they asked if their trunks could be transformed too! Imagine that, a trunk with a fabulous makeover!
Important details
- These trunks have a special place in people’s hearts because they’ve been used for all sorts of things. Some families even used them as makeshift beds or diwans (fancy word for a cozy seating area). You can get really creative with these trunks!
- For this project, they brought Gond artists all the way from Madhya Pradesh. Gond art is a beautiful tribal art form that uses bright colors and shows nature stuff like animals, birds, and flowers. But the absolute favorite was elephants! Who wouldn’t want an elephant on their trunk, right?
- Now, the process of making these trunks fabulous is no joke! They have to be sanded, smoothened, and given multiple coats of paint. It takes around three to four weeks to complete just one trunk. But hey, good things take time!
- And get this, – you can even choose the colors and designs for your trunk. It’s like having your own customised masterpiece! Plus, it’s not just trunks they’re working on. They’re also making mirror frames with Gond and folk art. So fancy!
- The best part is that these trunks hold precious memories. They’ve stored fancy wedding clothes, shiny silverware, and even monthly supplies. One person said it felt like a piece of their childhood. Isn’t that amazing?
- So, while these trunks become a part of your past, they also give traditional artists a chance to earn just as much as the contemporary ones. It’s a win-win situation, my friends!
- In conclusion, the “Trunk Call: From Grey to Gond” project is turning boring trunks into stunning pieces of art. It’s all about bringing color, creativity, and memories back to life. Who knew trunks could be so fancy and fun?
