UAE’s ‘One Billion Meals’ campaign!

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Organisers of the massive food distribution campaign in the UAE stated that it will continue after Ramadan until the one billion mark has been achieved.

The UAE’s ‘One Billion Meals’ campaign, an expansion of the previous ’10 Million Meals and ‘100 Million Meals’ Ramadan campaigns will be open to all donors, both domestic and international after the holy month of Ramadan is over.

The organisers of the campaign Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) stated that in 2021 the “100 Million Meals” campaign ended at the conclusion of Ramadan, but food distribution continued until February 2022, when all the donated meals were distributed.

However this year, there will be no halt to the “One Billion Meals” programme this year. Until the objective of supplying one billion meals to the world’s most needy communities is met.

One Billion Meals Initiative!

The campaign has been called the UAE’s largest food distribution initiative. If one donates 1 dirham to the “One Billion Meals” campaign, one can feed someone in need in more than 50 countries.

As part of last year’s “100 Million Meals” campaign, 220 million meals were secured through food parcels and smart coupons. It helps low-income families, refugees, people who have been displaced, and people who have been affected by disasters and crises.

Expansion to other countries!

The campaign intends to help people in Syria, Afghanistan, Morocco, and Albania who are in need. With help from the United Nations and the UN World Food Program, the initiative plans to reach more African countries this year.

Food aid will be given in the form of parcels that contain food that families can use to make their own meals. Smart vouchers will mostly be given out so that people can buy their own food at local markets.

The campaign also intends to work together to help low-income families and individuals in the UAE get food aid.

Long-term Goal of the campaign!

One of the main goals of the “One Billion Meals” campaign is to set up long-term projects in agriculture and food security so that communities can be able to get their own food in the long run.

The organisers are trying to find long-term solutions that fight malnutrition and hunger and lessen the need for humanitarian aid. The initiative intends to establish “enabled meals,” not just “distributed meals,” as its aim. The organisers believe it’s essential to keep the aid going.
