Look at those dancing girls – they’re so pretty! Oh wait, are they flowers? Impatiens bequaertii is a rare species that grows in the rain forests of east Africa.
Fun facts about Impatiens bequaertii!
- The petals resemble a little girl in a skirt with outstretched arms.
- This little plant only grows about a foot across (12 inches on a ruler).
- The blooms are also just 1/2 inch long. That’s less than the top tip of my little finger!
- These flowers are generally white in colour, but sometimes they are pink too.
The Impatiens bequaertii is a long-lasting plant that trails as well as climbs up to 8 inches.
- It takes root where ever it touches the soil and can be grown in a hanging planter as well.
- Its heart-shaped leaves are olive green on top, and wine red on the underside. The branches are also red in colour.
- These impatiens grow year-round in a mild climate. They prefer filtered light and moist well-draining soil.
