Watch video: Slackliner crosses the Seine from Eiffel Tower

Recommended for Foundational Grades

Imagine crossing above a river, walking on a rope – this is what visitors to the Eiffel Tower in Paris saw a man do, this week.

Frenchman Nathan Paulin is a slackliner. This weekend, he walked the 600-metre slackline from the Eiffel Tower to the Chaillot Theater. These two are on the opposite sides of the river Seine.

Who is a slackliner?

A slackliner is a person who practises the sport of slacklining. This sport involves walking along a rope that is stretched above the ground.

In slacklining, the wire or rope is not stretched tightly but moves with the user. This makes it different from tightrope walking.

Paulin’s slackline from the Eiffel Tower was suspended 70 metres above the ground. He was able to walk the entire length, from one side to the other in just half an hour.

Pauline performed the feat to celebrate France’s annual Heritage Day.

World records

However, Pauline has done this walk from the Eiffel Tower in 2017 as well. At that time, he set the world record for the longest urban highline walk with a safety harness by a man. Moreover, he also holds other world records too.
