Weather Update: Cold waves and rains.

Amidst the fear of COVID-19, the weather is also changing its moods. Cold wave conditions and rainfall is expected in certain parts of India.

India Meteorological Department(IMD) has issued a warning for the North and North-West India of a cold wave with fog.

What is India Meteorological Department?

The India Meteorological Department is an agency of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India. It is the principal agency responsible for meteorological observations, and weather forecasting.

Effects of the Cold Wave

India Meteorological Department issued the statements that cold waves are expected over Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

The officials from IMD  also stated that there may be a fall of 2-4 degrees in the temperature in  Central Maharashtra. The upcoming days are guessed to be the coldest days of the capital city of India. It is also likely that it will rain in Delhi and the regions NCR.

The cold wave will affect Bareilly, Lucknow and Gorakhpur as well. Moreover, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand will also be affected by the cold waves over the period of the next few days, until 17th January.

IMD also predicts rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to affect Southern India including Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerela.

The rainfall is said to continue until 17tth January 2022, and it is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region and also Southern India.

The rainfall is the effect of a cyclonic circulation over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and the other in Southern Tamil Nadu.
