Space tourism – Which company is next to send tourists to space?

Let’s explain space tourism to all you kids! We have read about SpaceX and its plans to send astronauts to space. This includes not only astronauts from NASA but also ordinary citizens or tourists.

Many other companies are also working towards sending more ordinary citizens into space. Blue Origin is one of them.

Blue Origin was founded by Jeff Bezos. He is the founder of the e-commerce company Amazon and the richest man in the world.

Blue Origin has announced that it will send its first crew to space on 20 July 2021. The trip will last for 10 minutes. Four of the 10 minutes will be spent above the Karman line. This line marks the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and space.

The flight will have six members. One of the seats has been opened up for space tourism through an online auction. Whoever offers the most money for it will get the seat.

The rocket for the flight is called New Shephard and is reusable. It is named after Alan Shephard, the first American in space.

In preparation for this launch, Blue Origin has tested New Shephard 15 times, without a crew.

The company said that the money made from this mission will go to an organisation called Club for the Future. This organisation aims to make future generations interested to work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
