World Hand Hygiene Day – 5 May

World Hand Hygiene Day is celebrated on 5 May every year.
This day focuses on the importance of proper hand hygiene. Hygiene means following the rules of keeping yourself and things around you clean (in order to prevent disease).
Today, with the spread of the COVID-19 disease, it has become even more important to wash hands regularly.
Washing hands is a good habit. But it is also important to do it properly. We should always wash our hands with soap and water. We should also do it for at least 20 seconds.
Theme of World Hand Hygiene Day
This year, the WHO or World Health Organization’s theme for the day is ‘CLEAN HANDS SAVE LIVES‘. It encourages everyone, especially healthcare workers to wash their hands properly. Following these rules will save lives.
