COVID-19 update

Over 61.6 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide. Out of them, 39.4 million have recovered.

The US celebrated its annual Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday. However, due to COVID-19, celebrations were much quieter this year. The US is the country most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Galleri blood test to detect cancer

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) has started trials on a simple blood test that may detect more than 50 types of cancer. It is called the Galleri blood test and it was developed by US healthcare company Grail.

The trial will be first done with 165,000 patients. The NHS hopes that it could help thousands of people by allowing the disease to be detected at an earlier stage, which will make recovery easier.

Conflict in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian government’s forces are fighting with a rebel group called the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) in Tigray, Ethiopia. There are concerns that it will turn into a civil war (war within a country). The conflict has led to thousands of refugees to flee from the region.

Digital currency Libra

Facebook is set to launch its digital currency Libra by January 2021. However, the launch will be on a much more limited scale than previously planned.

Digital currency is a form of currency (money) that is available only in digital or electronic form, and not in physical form.
