COVID-19 update
Infections in the US passed 15 million. US President-elect Joe Biden said that 100 million vaccinations will be provided in his first 100 days in office.
The UK is on the second day of its mass vaccination programme with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. Yesterday, a 90-year-old woman named Margaret Keenan became the first person in the world to receive the vaccine.
Four lions at Barcelona Zoo in Spain tested positive for COVID-19.

World’s smallest possum spotted in Australia after a year.
The tiny pygmy possum is the smallest possum in the world. It weighs less than 10 gm (about the weight of a ₹10 coin). It lives in Australia but hadn’t been since the wildfires last year which worried wildlife experts. However, recently, they were spotted again alongside other small animals.
China bans 105 apps
China has banned 105 apps from its app stores saying that they have violated cybercrime laws. While most of the apps are of Chinese origin, one of them is the US travel app TripAdvisor. China is very strict with its internet laws and Google, Facebook and Twitter are all blocked in China.

Nobel Prize winners receive the prize at home
The Nobel Prizes are awarded every year on 10 December in Sweden and the Nobel prize in Norway. However, this year’s 12 Nobel laureates are receiving their prizes in online ceremonies from home.
Literature prize winner American poet Louise Glück was the first to be awarded on Sunday. The rest will be awarded every day this week, ending with the Peace prize to the World Food Programme on Friday.
