Dear Benjamin Cherian Mathew, what a delightful surprise to find your “Newspaper basket” featured in Curious Times! Your creation is a testament to the power of upcycling and the joy of DIY projects.

Your eco-friendly craft, woven from recycled newspaper, is not only a beautiful handmade basket but also a reminder that even the simplest materials can be transformed into something useful and aesthetically pleasing.

Newspaper Weaving: A Fun and Sustainable Activity

For all you budding young environmentalists, here’s how you can create your own newspaper basket at home:

  1. Gather Your Materials: Collect old newspapers, scissors, glue, and a ruler (optional).

  2. Create Newspaper Tubes: Roll newspaper sheets tightly around a knitting needle or skewer, and glue the end to secure. You’ll need many tubes for your basket.

  3. Weave the Base: Start by weaving the base of your basket in a crisscross pattern. You can use a cardboard base for added stability.

  4. Build the Sides: Continue weaving, gradually lifting the tubes to form the sides of the basket. Use clothespins or paper clips to hold the tubes in place as you work.

  5. Finishing Touches: Once your basket reaches the desired height, fold the ends of the tubes inwards and glue them to secure. You can decorate your basket with paint, ribbons, or other embellishments.

Remember, newspaper weaving is a fun and easy way to reuse newspaper and create unique paper crafts. It’s a small step towards a more sustainable living, and a great way to unleash your creativity!
