The Human Hour
The Human Hour
My teacher came and said one day
Rejoice and shout and cheer, you may
For now it is your turn to smile
Exhale into freedom for a while
This one period everyday
You’re up for real fun, I say
Now the class’s minds were whirring
Their imaginations stirring
“Will we get to sleep?” Someone shouted
Staring at a mythical bed
The teacher gave up the game
Trusting their imaginations to drive her insane
The class went wild as she revealed
The freedom to which their fate was sealed
The right to learn your’e going to be having
Whatever you want, anything!
You can learn to dance or learn to sing
Chose something that pleases your ring
“You!” She pointed at me and said
“What do you chose to fill your head?”
I thought for a moment and looked at her
My brain running into a blur
Chess or cooking or yoga or dance
Should I learn to sing or learn to prance
Suddenly I knew what I wanted
“There’s no point in all these things”, I said
None of these will quench my thirst
Unless I learn to be a good human first…
