Amongst the many ways I can introduce myself, one of the happiest and also one of the proudest way I do so is when I say I am a mother of a handsome four year old boy. Of course this is a mother’s pride speaking and not Gender Bias.
Every child deserves to reach her or his full potential, but gender inequalities in their lives and in the lives of those who care for them hinder this reality.
This isn’t an article about my experience, this is an article about every woman who works. It’s an article about me and a whole lot of women pretending we can still have it all.
Gender bias exists in every aspect of society….
The gap affects our children’s education, the size of the paycheck women bring home, and why women still lag behind men in certain careers. We all have unconscious biases.
Gender disparity still exists in India. Being born as women in Indian society, one has to face gender discrimination at all levels. At the household level, females are confined to their household chores, raising children and looking after families, irrespective of their education degrees or job profile…
Education and learning opportunities: gender-wise literacy rates in India showcase the wide gap between men and women. As per 2011 census data, effective literacy rates (age 7 and above) were 82.14% for men and 65.46% for women. Still there are parents who are unwilling to spend on girls’ education because educating women is of no value as they will only serve their husbands and the in-laws in the future.
The Indian constitution provides equal rights and privileges for both men and women, but most women across India don’t enjoy these rights and opportunities guaranteed to them. This is because of a number of reasons.
Poverty, Illiteracy, Patriarchal setup in our Indian society, Social Customs, Beliefs and Practices, Lack of Awareness Among Women are some of the major reasons of the Bias.
UNICEF India’s 2018-2022 Country Programme has been developed in response to the identification of deprivations that Indian children face, including gender based deprivations.

Let’s all join together in making India a No Gender Bias nation.
Thank you
