World Environment Day – 05 June
The world celebrates “World Environment Day (WED)” on 5th June, every year.
The UN (United Nations) established this day to raise awareness on environmental issues like pollution, global warming and wildlife depletion.
The theme of World Environment Day 2021 is Ecosystem Restoration.
This year, the UN launches a “Decade on Ecosystem Restoration” i.e. dedicating 10 years to restore the environment. Ecosystems can be restored in many ways like Growing trees, keeping the cities green by not cutting trees. We can also improve the environment by changing diets, not using air conditioners, avoiding fossil fuel vehicles or cleaning up rivers and coasts.
Many organisations are committing to the decade of Ecosystem Restoration, one of the prominent ones being the Geneva Environment Network.
