COVID-19: India records lowest daily cases since March

Over the last 24 hours, India recorded 18,795 new COVID-19 infections. According to the Union Health Ministry, this is the lowest in 192 days, since 1 March.

Over 86 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered (given) till now in India. Over 1 crore doses were given in the last 24 hours alone. Moreover, this is the 5th time that India hit over 1 crore vaccinations per day.

Home Minister Amit Shah today said that India has handled the COVID-19 pandemic in the best possible manner. This is despite limited resources and the large population.

The World Bank says the COVID-19 Delta variant has slowed down economic growth in East Asia and the Pacific region. It has also predicted lower economic growth for most countries.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has further delayed the emergency use authorisation (EUA) for the COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin. This may affect international travel plans for India, especially students’.

Vaccine patch

Scientists in the US have developed a three-dimensional (3D) printed vaccine patch. It does not need to be injected but can be stuck on the skin. It could be shipped anywhere in the world without special handling, and people can apply the patch themselves. Moreover, it also provides greater protection than a typical vaccine shot.
