India reported 10,929 COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours. This is 14% lower than yesterday. Over 3 crore cases have been reported in India since the pandemic began.

Over 107.92 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been administered (given) across the country.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) approved the use of the India-made COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin. This means the vaccine will be recognised by other countries when people travel abroad.

As air pollution has gotten worse after Diwali in Delhi, experts say that this is a worry for people who have recovered from COVID-19.

Scientists at the University of Oxford have found a gene that doubles the risk of lung failure and death from Covid. This gene is highly present in people from South Asian backgrounds.

Costa Rica has made the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory for children between 5 and 11 years. It means they have to take the vaccine whether they want to or not.

Antiviral medicine

Pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc said that its antiviral pill for COVID-19 cuts the risk of severe issues while suffering from COVID-19 by 89%. Another company called Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics has also developed an oral antiviral pill for COVID-19, which has been approved by the UK. It is the first country to do so.
