India recorded 30,570 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Till now, about 3.33 crore cases have been recorded in India. The national COVID-19 recovery rate is 97.64%, as per the health ministry.

As per the government, Kerala reported 67.79% of India’s total COVID-19 cases last week. Moreover, it is the only state with more than 1 lakh active cases.

As Durga Puja and other festivals are approaching, the Assam government has set out rules. It says that organisers and volunteers of all puja committees must get at least the first dose of vaccine against COVID-19 and preferably with the second dose too.

In an interview with NDTV, Dr Singh, the Director of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said that COVID-19 will start becoming endemic in India in the next six months. This means the infection will be there among the people. But it will be easier to handle, like the flu. This will make the infection more manageable. Dr Singh also stressed that vaccination remains the biggest protection against COVID-19.

Global news

China has fully vaccinated more than one billion people against the COVID-19 virus. That is 71% of its population.

A new study by pharmaceutical company Moderna Inc. says that it found a higher rate of breakthrough cases in people who got shots early. Breakthrough cases mean people who get COVID-19 even after getting the vaccine.
