Google today celebrates the 93rd birthday of Sivaji Ganesan with a doodle. An India-based guest artist Noopur Rajesh Choksi created the wonderful doodle. below
Sivaji was one of India’s first method actors and widely considered among the nation’s most influential actors of all time.
Sivaji Ganesan’s story
Sivaji Ganesan was born on 1 October in 1928, as Ganesamoorthy in Villupuram, a town in Tamil Nadu. At the young age of 7, he left home and joined a theatre group. There he started playing child and female roles and then later, lead roles.
Then in December 1945, Ganesan became famous for his role as the 17th-century Indian King Shivaji in a play. From then on, he used the named Sivaji.
His first film was Parasakthi in 1952, After that, he acted in over 300 films over about 50 years. Sivaji was renowned for his expressive voice and wonderful performances in Tamil-language cinema. Some of his most famous films include the 1961 film Pasamalar and the 1964 film Navarthri.
Awards
In 1960, Sivaji Ganesan made history as the first Indian performer to win Best Actor at an international film festival. He won for his movie Veerapandiya Kattabomman. Later, he also got France’s highest decoration, the Chevalier of the National Order of the Legion of Honour. Moreover, in 1997, he won the Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is India’s highest award in the field of cinema.
