Qatar is the host for the 2022 FIFA Football World Cup. In preparation for this huge sports event, it is preparing 8 stadiums.

On 22 October, Qatar inaugurated the fifth stadium for the tournament. This one is called the Al Thumama Stadium. The event was marked with a football match. This was the final match of the 2021 Amir Cup between football clubs Al Sadd and Al Rayyan.

Al Sadd won 5-4 on penalties. Al Sadd has also won the Amir Cup the most number of times.

What is the Amir Cup?

The Amir Cup (or Emir Cup) Amir Cup is a football tournament played every season by 18 first and second division football teams of Qatar.

Al Thumama Stadium

The FIFA World Cup venue, Al Thumama Stadium, is located near Hamad International Airport. This airport is in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The stadium has a capacity of 40,000 seats and is surrounded by a huge park.

The Chief Architect of the Arab Engineering Bureau, Ibrahim Jaidah, designed the stadium. The design is inspired by the traditional taqiyah hat. This is a cap that is worn by men and boys across the Middle East.
