Thousands mourn the death of actor Puneeth Rajkumar

On 29 October, actor Puneeth Rajkumar passed away in Bengaluru. The actor was 46 years old and a superstar of Kannada cinema. He had suffered a sudden heart attack while working out in the gym and was rushed to a hospital. But he died there.

Who was Puneeth Rajkumar?

Puneeth Rajkumar, popularly known as Appu or ‘Powerstar‘, was an Indian actor, playback singer, television presenter, and producer. He first became famous as a child actor and some of his most well-known films include Vasantha Geetha, Bhagyavantha and Bettada Hoovu. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for his role of Ramu in Bettada Hoovu. As an adult, he was well known for his role in films such as Appu, Abhi, Veera Kannadiga, Raajakumara, and Anjani Putra.

Rajkumar was one of the most famous celebrities and the highest-paid actors in the Kannada cinema. He was also the son of Dr Rajkumar, one of the most respected actors in Kannada cinema.

Tributes and honours

His sudden death has shocked his fans and colleagues. Prime Minister Modi, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and many others have expressed their condolences to him on Twitter. His funeral will be held with official honours. Thousands of fans have gathered around his residence, to express their grief. Moreover, many shops and offices remain closed in Bengaluru today.
