Healthy Harold thinks plants help kids

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

University of Technology, Sydney has conducted research and found that indoor plants in the classroom have turned helpful. Healthy Harold at LifeEd, Australia believes that plants can help in children’s overall development.

What is healthy harold?

Healthy Harold is an integral part of Australian education since 1979 and helps in empowering children through health education.

How are indoor plants helpful?

The indoor plants help in improving air quality and also reduce the negative moods in the surroundings. These plants can help in boosting maths scores by 14% and spelling scores boost by 12%. Some indoor plants include peace lilies, philodendron and devil’s ivy. School gardens are ways to connect with the benefits of nature and encourage healthy eating

Healthy Harold’s steps for overall kids’ development

Healthy Harold is a friendly giraffe and is operated by life education instructors.  Harold and his friends at Life Ed and Yates are encouraging schools, preschools and community groups to apply for one of 10 garden grants, worth $1000 each.

Besides studying, you can have fun growing plants at school.

  • You can experiment on the plants inside the classroom while counting new leaves and about how tall the stems have grown over the number of weeks.
  • Put stick-on eyes, noses and mouths to create characters out of the plants.
  • Create colourful and creative pots for the indoor plants.
  • Start a garden at the school and stay creative.
