President Kovind confers Khel Ratna Awards on National Sports Day

President Kovind confers Khel Ratna Awards on National Sports DayYesterday was National Sports Day. On this occasion, President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Khel Ratna Awards in a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi.

Para-athlete Deepa Malik and wrestler Bajrang Punia received the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
 	Deepa Malik is the first Indian woman Para-athlete and the oldest sportsperson to receive the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.
 	President Kovind also presented the Arjuna Awards to 19 athletes. They included B. Sai Praneeth and Pramod Bhagat.

President Kovind also presented more awards at the ceremony. They included the following:

Dronacharya Award Regular category (3 winners).
 	Dronacharya Award Lifetime category (3 winners).
 	Dhyan Chand Award Lifetime Achievement Award (5 winners).
 	Three organisations also received the Rashtriya Khel Proysahan Puruskar.
 	President Kovind also presented the Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy to Panjab University, Chandigarh.
