Defence Minister Rajnath Singh receives first Rafale; delivery in May 2020

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh receives first Rafale; delivery in May 2020India's defence minister, Rajnath Singh received the first Rafale fighter jet in France yesterday, 8 October 2019.

French company Dassault Aviation was commissioned to build 36 of them for the Indian Air Force (IAF).
 	However, the first batch of fighter jets will arrive in India only in May 2020.
 	18 Rafales are expected to arrive by February 2021 and the remaining by April 2022.
 	Mr Singh performed 'Shastra puja' on the aircraft, as it was Dussehra and also flew a sortie in it.
 	Later, he held the Annual Defence dialogue with French Defence Minister Florence Parly.
 	The Rafale fighter jets are expected to boost India’s air dominance to ensure peace and security in the region, Mr Singh said.

Mr Singh also met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace earlier. The two leaders discussed key aspects of the bilateral defence partnership and resolved to continue strengthening the ties between the two countries.
