Pink dolphins are having fun in Hong Kong due to less water-traffic

Have you ever seen pink dolphins?
Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins, also known as Chinese white dolphins and pink dolphins, live in the Pearl River estuary in China.
What is an estuary?
An estuary is the wide part of a river at the place where it joins the sea.
An adult Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin is usually grey, white or pink in colour. However, the population along the Chinese coast all have pink skin.
These dolphins usually avoid the waters between Hong Kong and Macau. This is because many high-speed boats or ferries travel between the two regions every day.
But now?
However, due to COVID-19, the number of boats has become very less. This has led to many dolphins returning to the waters of Hong Kong. Since March 2002, dolphin numbers in the area have risen by 30%.
Scientists say that the dolphins are having fun, splashing around and playing with each other.
The population of pink dolphins in the Pearl River estuary is falling due to overfishing, water pollution and more. Scientists are now calling for protection for the dolphins before the ferries restart.
