Rohtang Pass reopens after 6 months

Rohtang Pass, which connects the Kullu Valley with the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys of Himachal Pradesh, has been restored by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday.

The Mountain pass, on the eastern Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, is at an altitude (height) of 13,050 feet from the Mean Sea Level (MSL) and is situated around 51 km away from Manali.
 	The pass lies on the watershed between the Chenab and Beas basins. On the southern side is the Beas River and on its northern side, the Chandra River (flows from the eastern Himalayas), which leads to the Chenab River.
 	Every year, the pass gets closed for about six months due to heavy snowfall.

Most of the residents move to Kullu-Manali in the winter as there is too much snow and there’s no road connectivity
 	There is no telecommunication/ mobile service in Rohtang during that time.

Even for elections, voters were allowed to travel towards Lahaul-Spiti from Kullu-Manali to cast their vote.
