‘Nomadland’ director Chloe Zhao makes history at the Oscars

The Oscars or Academy Awards are regarded as the most famous and prestigious awards in the entertainment industry around the world.
The 93rd Oscars ceremony was held on Sunday (Monday morning for India) in Los Angeles, US. There were no audience or host at the event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Asian-American director Chloe Zhao made history becoming only the second woman to win Best Director. She is also the first woman of colour to win this award. She had won at the Golden Globes too, earlier.
Zhao is the director of the film Nomadland. The film won two more awards – Best Picture as well as Best Actress for Frances McDormand.
Sir Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor, becoming the oldest actor to win the award. Daniel Kaluuya won Best Supporting Actor, becoming the first black British actor to win an Oscar. South Korean actress Yuh-Jung Youn won Best Supporting Actress. She is the first South Korean actor to win an Oscar.
Other winners
Other winners at the Oscars this year include the films Soul (Best Animated Feature Film) and My Octopus Teacher (Best Documentary Film).
