A strange-looking fish

Deep inside the ocean, there is no sunlight. It is also very cold and there is a lot of pressure. This means that fishes and other sea animals found there look very different.

One of the strange-looking fish found in the deep sea is called anglerfish.

What does the anglerfish look like?

This fish looks like a scary monster. It’s shaped like a football and has sharp-looking teeth. We hardly see such fishes as they live in the deep sea where humans do not normally go.

Recently, one such anglerfish was found on the beach in California, US. This fish is a type of anglerfish called the Pacific Football Fish. It is black in colour.

This strange-looking fish has a stick-like body part coming out of its head. This shows it is a female fish as only females have them. Female anglerfishes are also much much bigger than males.

What would you do if you saw such a strange-looking fish on the beach?
