First alarm clock of modern times rang only at one timeThe first working alarm clock in the modern era was invented by a man named Hutchins in New Hampshire, United States. It was in the year 1787. The feature of the clock was that it could only ring one time - 4 am. Hutchins made this clock only for himself so that he could wake up on time for his job.
What is the history of the alarm clock?
The Greeks first invented the prototype (first model) of an alarm clock in 2500 BC. Their ideas were based on using water flow that hit a bell mechanically.

An engineer named Ctesibus came up with the idea. He thought of the idea of dropping pebbles on a gong to make a sound. He fitted his clepsydras (water clock) with a dial and pointer for showing the time. The pebbles were set to drop at a specific time.

Moreover, the Greek philosopher Plato also made his own version of the alarm clock. It helped him create a routine in his personal life.
Other similar inventions
A Buddhist monk and inventor also devised a striking clock in China during the 7th century AD. Thereafter, during the 11th and 12th century China also invented more astronomical clocks.

We have also found a water-powered alarm clock in Syria which would ring every hour.

Today, the oldest existing alarm clock is a German iron wall clock with a bronze bell. This clock was probably manufactured in Nuremberg in the 15th century. It was 19 inches tall and hung up high.
