Amrita Sher-Gil painting is second most expensive Indian artworkHave you ever read about the artist Amrita Sher-Gil? She was a Hungarian-Indian artist. And is considered to be a "pioneer" (leader) in modern Indian art.

Recently, the Indian auction house Saffronart sold one of her paintings for ₹37.8 crores. The painting is called "In the Ladies' Enclosure". It is now the second most expensive Indian work of art. The most expensive is a 1961 painting by VS Gaitonde.

Sher-Gil's painting shows women working in a field. It is an oil on canvas painting that Sher-Gil painted in 1938.

Born in Bupadest, Hungary, to an Indian father and Hungarian mother, Sher-Gil started painting at a young age. Many of her works focus on women and their activities. She was not very famous when she was alive. However, today, she is the most well-known woman artist in India. Moreover, she has influenced many other artists and even the Indian government has declared her works as National Art Treasures.
