ISS briefly loses control with misfiring of Russian module

ISS briefly loses control with misfiring of Russian moduleISS stands for International Space Station. It is a modular space station in Earth's orbit.

Recently, the ISS briefly lost control when a Russian module misfired. The shakeup affected 7 crew members. The members included 2 Russian cosmonauts, 3 NASA astronauts, 1 Japanese astronaut and 1 European Space Agency astronaut from France. NASA reports that none of the crew members was harmed.

The ISS module (part) that lost control was the Nauka module. It was latched on to the space station and mission controllers in Moscow were trying to reconfigure (adjust) it. However, the jet thrusters of the Russian research module got fired accidentally and the mishap happened. The module had restarted suddenly and it caused the entire station to pitch out of its normal position. The position went up to about 400 km above the earth. The change in the position lasted for about 45 minutes.

According to the reports by NASA, after the misfiring, the Nauka engines were switched off and the space station was stabilized. So, there was no harm to human lives.
After-effects of the ISS malfunction
Moreover, this malfunction of the ISS has prompted NASA to postpone the launch of Boeing's CST-100 Starliner capsule until 3 August 2021. Also, they have not yet found the causes of the malfunction.
